Michelle Hernandez, animal adoption counselor, coaxes "Sally" to pose while photographer Peter Phun helps a student work the camera

Michelle Hernandez, animal adoption counselor, was prone on the ground coaxing the best out of "Sally" while 6th grader Briana Palencia from St. Francis De Sales school and classmates tried to capture that elusive moment.

Riverside photographer Peter Phun stayed in the background making sure not to distract "Sally." Apparently Sally, a stray up for adoption, didn't care much for men. So we want to apologize to the letter carrier who received a rude reception when he came by.

On the other makeshift outdoor studio, the other sixth graders thought they had it easier.

John Welsh, public information chief with the Riverside Department of Animal Services, held a feisty and speedy tortoise for professional photographer Carlos Puma.

Meanwhile California Museum of Photography educator Reggie Woolery documented the event behind the scenes and also processed the digital images on an Apple powerbook.

Woolery who opened the doors of the CMP specially for this workshop was interviewed by KVCR reporter Maura Graber and videographer Mike Flattery for an upcoming segment.

Before leaving, the students and their parents were able to look over their images as it was projected on a screen.

Carlos Puma and Peter Phun provided critiques on all the students' excellent effort.
